Operational Challenges of Modern Demand-Control Ventilation Systems: A Field Study

To maintain proper indoor air quality and increase energy efficiency, a demand-control ventilation (DCV) system has become popular solution. This paper reports the findings of field study conducted on performance DCV systems in eight public buildings southern Finland. We measurements two stages. While were operating suboptimal way, flaws functionality mostly minor, none sites had perceived indoor-air-quality- and/or thermal-condition-related problems time measurement. Nonetheless, this result shows that potential benefits partially lost due malfunctioning systems. Additionally, by monitoring room temperature (or IAQ) without rate different modes, it is not possible conclude whether works properly or not.
